From October 15, it will be possible to cross the Latvian border with Russia and Belarus only after registering in the electronic queue reservation system

To improve border-crossing security and prevent queues of motor vehicles at Latvia’s eastern border, starting from 15 October 2025, crossing the Latvia–Russia and Latvia–Belarus borders at Grebņeva, Terehova, and Pāternieki will only be possible with prior registration in the Electronic queue reservation system (ERRS). With the introduction of this new reservation system, the same border-crossing procedure will apply across all three Baltic States. Vehicles for border crossing from 15 October can already be registered in the electronic queue starting today, 1 October, via the websites www.lvborder.lv and www.lvrobeza.lv.

The new procedure stipulates that all motor vehicles crossing Latvia’s eastern border must be registered remotely using a specially developed e-service – the Electronic queue reservation system, similar to the system already in place in Estonia and Lithuania. Initially, the solution will be implemented at Latvia’s external border crossing points Grebņeva, Terehova, and Pāternieki, and it will apply to all vehicles.

Registration available from 1 October

It will be possible to register for border crossing on the websites www.lvborder.lv and www.lvrobeza.lv starting from 1 October 2025. The new procedure for crossing the border will take effect on 15 October, when border crossing will only be possible with prior registration in the ERRS.

From 15 October 2025, vehicles will not be allowed to cross the eastern border of the Republic of Latvia without prior registration in the Electronic queue reservation system – this means that crossing the border in a “live” queue will no longer be possible.

Clear border crossing process

Registration in the system will allow the driver to select a specific time slot (1 hour) for entering the chosen border crossing point up to 30 days before the planned border crossing. Advance booking will include registration in the queue, joining the queue, and a simplified calculation based on the average service time per vehicle at the border crossing point. The queue number for crossing the border within the selected time slot will be assigned to the driver after the system confirms receipt of the payment.

Registration will also be possible shortly before reaching the border crossing point by receiving the nearest available queue registration number offered by the system; however, early booking will provide advantages.

The system is being developed by the State Joint-Stock Company “Latvian State Radio and Television Center”

The development and implementation of the system is being provided by the State Joint-Stock Company “Latvian State Radio and Television center” in cooperation with the responsible state institutions. For system users’ support, ATD will provide an informational telephone support service, which will be available to border crossers on working days from 8:00 to 17:00.

Both Latvian residents and foreign citizens will be able to join the queue and pay for the service electronically on the websites www.lvborder.lv or www.lvrobeza.lv. The fee for an electronic queue reservation for one vehicle is 9.30 EUR.
