Riga Radio and TV Tower turns 40! How Will It Look After the Renovation?

This year The Riga Radio and Television Tower is celebrating its 40th anniversary since the start of regular broadcasts back in 1986. It is significant that exactly this year a vision is being developed for what the tower will look like after its renovation.

Design Competition – A New Visual and Spatial Narrative

An important step in this process has been completed – the winners of the interior design competition for the Riga Radio and Television Tower have been announced.

The goal of the competition was to create a modern, functional, and publicly accessible environment while preserving the tower’s unique identity and historical heritage. The new interior design must also reflect LVRTC’s values and vision for the future, highlighting the company’s contributions to electronic communications, cybersecurity, and digital development.

The concept “XIX919,” created by LLC “Vincents,” received the highest rating from the jury. The submission stood out for its clear and cohesive concept, which harmoniously combines the tower’s functionality, historical heritage, and contemporary design. The jury particularly appreciated the well-thought-out spatial planning, the integration of technology, and the ability to create an environment that is both aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly.

Interior design – the visually appealing aspect of the renovation

“The design submitted to the competition is a confident, elegant, and high-quality piece that is characterized by strong conceptual unity and excellent potential for future development,” emphasizes jury chairwoman Jūlija Batalauska. Negotiations with LLC “Vincents” are expected to continue, and following these, a contract will be signed for the development of interior design for the tower’s public, technical, and office spaces.

The new interior design will be part of a broader tower renovation, which aims to create not only modern work and technology spaces but also a new public experience for visitors.

The tower will feature observation decks at a height of over 130 meters, a multifunctional event space, as well as a unique opportunity to experience a “walk in the clouds” at a height of 220 meters.

The tower’s 40th anniversary marks a new phase in its development – preserving its historical significance in Latvia’s landscape while creating a modern and internationally competitive environment for future technologies, experiences, and public engagement.
