“Pozitrons”- The most physically secure data center in the Baltics will begin operations next year

SJSC Latvian State Radio and Television Center (hereinafter – LVRTC) is continuing construction of the “Pozitrons” data center, and the building has already celebrated its topping-out ceremony. “Pozitrons” will become the most physically secure data center in the Baltics and will mark a new phase in Latvia’s digital infrastructure, strengthening the country’s ability to ensure the storage of critical data in a geographically diversified, high-security, and highly available environment.

As data volumes and digitalization grow across all sectors, so does the need for secure, high performance and flexible infrastructure. LVRTC’s “Pozitrons” data center addresses this need by offering high-performance data processing, storage, and backup infrastructure for both public and private sector needs.

The new data center is being built more than 140 kilometers from Riga. This location was deliberately chosen to mitigate risks in the event of various crisis situations and to ensure the highest level of physical security. It will be the first data center in the Baltics built more than 100 kilometers from the capital, thereby strengthening the resilience of Latvia’s digital infrastructure and ensuring service continuity.

The active phase of construction for the “Pozitrons” data center began on December 4, 2025, when the first work began. The project thus moved from the planning stage to the actual construction of infrastructure. During the winter, a pause was taken at the site, which is standard practice for projects of this scale and complexity, ensuring construction quality and the implementation of sustainable solutions. Work has now resumed in full, and infrastructure construction continues at the site.

The project is being carried out in two stages. In the first stage, which began in 2025, the basic infrastructure and engineering systems are being built to ensure the full-scale operation of the data center and the availability of services to customers. The data center is scheduled to begin operations in the first half of 2027, providing customers with top-tier data center services and high availability. The second phase, meanwhile, is scheduled to be executed within three years after the first phase of the data centre is commissioned, and it will involve the installation of additional racks.

More Secure Data Storage for Customers

“Pozitrons” is expanding the LVRTC data center network, enabling customers to store data in geographically dispersed locations while maintaining the same level of security and availability. This approach meets modern security requirements, where data availability and protection are becoming the foundation for both business operations and the delivery of government functions.

The project also places particular emphasis on energy efficiency and sustainability. The data center is being built in accordance with European best practice guidelines for data center energy efficiency, which means optimized energy consumption, modern cooling solutions, and opportunities to develop even more efficient resource utilization in the future.

At the same time, “Pozitrons” also carries a symbolic message about the future. With the start of construction, LVRTC invites the public to become part of this project and leave a message in a digital time capsule, where the messages will be preserved for future generations.

LVRTC already is one of the leading providers of data center and electronic communications infrastructure in Latvia, serving both telecommunications operators and critical government information systems.
